The 1 Billion 1 Person Company

How big can a company get without hiring more people?
That’s the question I have been obsessing over lately.
“How many people work at your company?” is still the go-to question at every networking event. And it makes sense: headcount is an easy-to-understand metric to judge a business success.
In consulting, revenue per employee ranges from $145.992 (Deloitte) to $440.000 (BCG).
More headcount means more revenue. At least that's how it used to be.
But times have changed. Let’s have a look at AI companies like Midjourney. They make $3.125.000 per employee. Suddenly human brains are not the limiting factor anymore. Processes and computing power are.
So I made a decision: Grow the company without hiring more people. We do that by using AI along every step of our value chain - through publicly available tools but also by investing in our own technology (to be announced soon).
For me that means:
• Asking “Can AI do that?” before we brief a human.
• Building tech to streamline our own workflows.
• Questioning every legacy process.
• Prioritizing artificial intelligence over human intelligence.
This sounds easy - but it’s not. It challenges conventional wisdom, it questions every process. Heck, it even threatens my own job. So this is most certainly the biggest shift in the way our business operates. And we are here to fully embrace it.
